HISTORICAL SOCIETY NEWSLETTER JANUARY, 2005 Happy New Year to all of you and may this be a prosperous and healthy new year for everyone. ********************************************************* We are already in the planning stages of some events for the coming year. The annual “Spring into the Past” tour has been set for April 30/May 1. The Tri-River Museum Network which sponsors this event has met and put the plans in motion. Advertising is our first priority and also planning events for each of the two days that we will be open. As usual we will need all the help we can get and welcome any ideas you may have to help put this event together. The Tri-River Museum Network is also putting into motion plans for another Attic Treasures Appraisal Show for next October. Dates are being discussed and contacts made to get this project going. Our Christmas open house was very successful this year. We were pleasantly surprised with the turnout and Santa gave away a lot of candy canes. The spirit of Christmas was in the air with the live Nativity in the yard next to the school, all the luminaries glowing, the snow flakes in the cold night air, and the warmth of good cheer inside the school house. We were very disappointed in the sale of our Barn Calendars. These calendars are done on a heavier weight paper and spiral bound and in beautiful color. We were in hopes that this project would be as exciting for everyone else as it was for the Historical Society. Even though we advertised in the paper, the newsletter, and took them where ever we could to sell it didn’t seem to help. We cannot survive on dues alone and donations are even slimmer that that so we need to have projects that will bring in monies so that we can keep our buildings and the society alive. Calendars can still be purchased from the HS or at the Township Hall. If you haven’t got your calendar yet, it is not too late. Please help us. If you would like to be more involved we would also welcome that. If you
would like a calendar you can purchase one at the Township Hall or contact
Sally Johnson, Your support will be greatly appreciated. The museum is coming together and we will have it ready for the Spring Tour. Janet VanWyck and Kim Culbertson and Carol Deter have been working when they can on Monday mornings trying to get it all back in order and displays arranged. With the new displays and all the work that has been done on the building in the last year, we are in hopes that it will be like new to all who visit even if you have been through the building before. If you would like to help them they would welcome your help any Monday morning. It is also time to think about paying your 2005 dues. Dues are: ( ) Individual…………………..$12.00 per year ( ) Family (Husband/Wife and children under 18……………………….$25.00 per year ( ) Student/full time…………...$10.00 per year ( ) Business/Professional……...$100.00 per year ( ) Life, Individual…………….$250.00 ( ) Life, Couple………………. $400.00 Memorials……………………..$_________ In memory of _____________________.
