On Saturday August 21, 2010, about 60 people came to Bowne Center to help celebrate the honor bestowed on the Bowne Center School as it was placed on the National Country School Registry. Bowne Center School was awarded a certificate from the Country School Association of America, and a plaque has been placed in the school entry denoting this honor. Chris Wenger, Township Supervisor, did the honors as the certificate and plaque were displayed for the first time. Among those attending was Sue Daniels, a member of the Michigan One Room School Association and board member of the CSAA. Sue informed us that we were only the second school in MIchigan to receive this recognition. Many of those attending were former teachers who had taught in area country schools and those who had attended the schools as students. A lot of reminiscing was done and tales of fond memories of those days were shared by those who came for the special event. We also opened our new venue, the Carriage Shed, for the first time. In addition, there were several new displays in the museum. Bowne Center, a "ghost town" , was a thriving community in the mid to late 1800's and we are so lucky to have four buildings still standing that represent those bygone days.
