Meetings All meetings of the Historical Society will be held on the Second Monday of the Month at 10:00 a.m.Our meeting place is at the museum. Next meetings are on April 11th, May 9th, and June 13th. Spring into the Past It is that time of year again! The Bowne Township Historical Society along with other members of the Tri River Museum Network are sponsoring a weekend of history. On April 30th and May 1st, all the museums in TRMN will open their doors with free admission. Open hours will be from 11am to 4pm both days with Bowne being open on Saturday April 30 from 11 am to 8pm. Bowne Center Methodist Church will be serving dinner that evening from 5 pm -7 pm. Come and visit the museums and dine at the church. This year there are 20 museums you can visit over the two day event. Because it is the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War, many of the museums are having special displays or attractions to commemorate this event. It is a good time to come visit and discover what it was like to live in this area in days gone by. A brochure with a map and information on each of the participating museums can be found at our museum or you can e-mail Sally Johnson (srjohnson4@charter.net) and she can e-mail you a copy. The Michigan One Room School Assoc. We are proud to announce that on May 21st, the Michigan One Room School Association will hold their annual meeting at Bowne Center. This will be the first time that they have held a meeting on this side of the state. They will be registering in the Historic Township Hall at 8:30am and will hold their meeting at the church with lunch served in the church hall. They will be touring our museums and once again we will be in need of volunteers to help us host this event. Youyoucan visit their website to learn more about MORSA and their annual meeting. Bowne Township and the Civil War Because of the anniversary of the Civil War we decided our project in commemoration of this event would be to look at the lists of those men who were from this area who went off to serve in this war between the states. We have located over 125 men so far and are putting the project online soon.
